Interstitial Lung Disease

Also known as ILD, Interstitial lung  disease can be caused by a numerous amount of different defects in the lungs. These generally cause inflammation and scarring in the air sacs which can lead to symptoms including; difficulty breathing, coughing, and fatigue. These symptoms are caused by the lungs inability to expand fully and inadequate oxygen reaching the blood stream. ILD is a general diagnosis surrounding the numerous pulmonary disorders that all have similar symptoms and physical features, but each have a range of different causes and treatments.

Treatments include:

  • Medications:

    • cortecosteroids​

    • stomach acid reducers

  • Pulmonary rehabilitation

  • Oxygen Therapy

  • Surgery

If you have ILD:

  • stop smoking

  • pay attention to diet and exercise

  • keep up to date with vaccinations
